On July 15th, 2018, RAM Construction Services began a Gravity Fed Resin project in Sandusky, Ohio. Gravity Fed Resin is a sealer designed to penetrate the cracks on a given structure to prevent water infiltration. Fine grade aggregate is broadcasted directly after application to provide friction for the travelling public; the top layer of the system eventually wears off, leaving only the filled cracks/imperfections.
This project consists of approximately 360,000 square feet of Gravity Fed Resin on 21 bridges throughout the Sandusky area. One factor that makes this project unique is a 60-day restriction, at which time the project must be fully completed. Amidst a very wet season, the 60-day restriction became a mild concern, but we took every opportunity to speed up the schedule and are currently projecting an early completion.
What truly separates this project from the rest is the fact that RAM is performing its own traffic control. During the bidding process, we knew the only way we could be competitive is if we set up our own closures, rather than hiring a subcontractor do this for us. Luckily, we had previously established a relationship with a local traffic controller who was able to give us very good rental pricing and offered to set up a few of the detour routes for us. Performing our own traffic control proved to be very cost-effective and allowed us to gain priceless experience for use on future projects.
