Spectrum Health expanded its Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont star ting in 2013, and completing it in 2014. Work included a new parking lot, a 9,900 square-foot renovation to the outpatient surgery area, and a 22,000 square-foot addition to include a larger emergency department and a new main lobby. The second floor contained an older psychiatric wing and was converted into endoscopy pre/post operating areas.
RAM Construction Services worked directly with Elzinga & Volkers to install waterproofing, on air barrier and interior/exterior sealants. Some of challenges we faced impacted our excavation operation due to the soil containing high amounts of clay. Ever y time it rained, water would fill the excavated areas around the building. With help from Elzinga & Volkers, pumps were constantly running to allow RAM Construction Services to install the basement waterproofing materials properly and provide a water tight finish. Expansion joints and spray polyurethane foam insulation were also installed under a separate contract with D9 Systems.
